Afripods, Africa's leading podcast hosting and distribution platform, has been operating in stealth mode for almost two years, working on its Broadcast-to-Podcast technology (B2P), resulting in an 895% increase in streams for participating radio stations and networks in the last six months. Afripods B2P currently has over 110 radio stations in eight African countries producing content in more than ten languages with an average month-over-month increase of 112% streams for stations. Afripods plans to expand its B2P into 15 markets and move from 10 to 20 languages by the end of 2023.

Podcast listeners are the fastest-growing global media audience, expecting to surpass 504.9 million in 2024, with a projected global podcasting ad revenue of more than $3.7 billion in the same year. Through proprietary 3rd party research, Afripods has found that 81% of African radio listeners want to listen to radio on demand, and 69% of current African radio listeners listen to podcasts. This research and behavior of both publishers and listeners with the B2P technology prove that there is an immediate appetite for radio on demand in Africa. Afripods has created the opportunity for publishers to take their single-use content and turn it into evergreen content that allows them to save time, increase profits and expand their audiences.

— According to the UN, 70% of sub-Saharan Africa is under the age of 30, making it the youngest population in the world, which plays a key role in the increasing desire and popularity of on-demand content such as podcasting. Through our work, we’ve seen B2P become the natural solution that allows radio stations and media houses to meet their current and future consumers where they are and where they will be, says Kevin Y. Brown, Chief Content Officer & Head of Strategy at Afripods.

As a venture partner, Levels has helped build Afripods from the ground up – from writing the first line of code to assembling a local team with strong connections to podcasters and radio networks. The result is a "one-stop-shop" for podcast creators, listeners, and advertisers and a technical infrastructure for podcasting across the continent. By building a platform specifically adapted to the capacity of regional networks, bandwidth, and electronic devices, while maintaining a high technical pedigree, we have optimized both the user experience and business opportunities together.
